Are you an author in need of a fact-checker for your forthcoming non-fiction book? An editor looking for a remote freelance fact-checker? I take on occasional fact-checking projects. To inquire about rates and availability, email mayadusenbery [at] gmail [dot] com.

I cut my teeth as fact-checker six years ago when I was a fellow at Mother Jones magazine, which runs a rigorous and highly respected fact-checking operation. Since then, I have done freelance work for other magazines (both online and print articles) and have been a fact-checker or research assistant for a couple book projects. (I also learned a ton from researching and writing my own densely footnoted book.)

I'm comfortable doing efficient but careful work under a tight deadline on shorter online pieces, as well as diving deep into long-form articles and books. I have experience working on a wide range of topics and genres, but I'm particularly skilled at tackling work that leans heavily on scientific and social science research, and I love working on health, economic justice, environmental and, of course, feminist stories.
